College Lectures - A Life Lesson

1⃣College canteen becomes your adda! It is the place where all your holidays are planned – the ones where everyone agrees to go but no one shows up, the ones you plan knowing it is never gonna happen. It is the place where you discuss your fear of exams and your love for TV shows and movies. From meeting up with friends to going on your first date with your so called college crush, the canteen is the place for everything!

Everything over just one cup of Coffee.

What's your story?

2⃣You’ve always known deep down that you’re awesome, but college will smack you in the face with this self-realization faster than you can say “bad guy.” Your four years of mingling with Ivy Tower elites and perfecting the art of pre-exam cramming will (hopefully) lead to a significant amount of self-actualization and growth.

You will begin to discover who you are behind the glitzy façade you put on for the outside world, and you will eventually realize that all of your idiosyncrasies — as strange and quirky as they may sometimes seem — are what make you special.

3⃣Hopefully sometime during your life at college, you will realize that rejection is an inevitable, healthy part of life. Maybe you’ll follow that professor’s suggestions and revise your paper, but you will learn to use rejection as an opportunity for self-improvement rather than bitter grousing.

College life is better at it — especially because we have a few more years of worldly wisdom with which to poke you where it hurts. At some point, someone will make you feel like the scum of the earth, worse than you’ve ever felt. It could be an ex, a former friend, a close one or someone who is mean to you for no good reason at all. Though their words or actions will sting — especially in the moment and perhaps for a period of time afterwards — realize that they can only affect you as much as you let them.

4⃣When you’re away from your family, your friends become your most important support network. These are the people you turn to on campus when something goes wrong but also when something goes right. They are the folks who will listen to you — complaining or gushing in solidarity with you. Hopefully, your friends will also be the ones to point out instances where you’re acting like an idiot — and you will learn to listen to them because their insight probably supersedes your own, in some situations.

You will also realize what it means to become fiercely loyal and protective of your friends — people can mess with you, but they better watch out if they try to mess with those close to you.

Got friends to be thankful for?

5⃣One of the most challenging tasks we face in college life is when one begins to learn to cope up with the environment, as we become semi-adults and the way we treat other people becomes much more serious than before. Though it may not be necessary to forget our grudges, we will learn how to gradually forgive them rather than let our anger or pain eat away at us.

We will begin to realize that one mistake (or even a dozen mistakes) should not tarnish someone forever in our eyes — that their actions only reflect the fact that they are just as flawed as we are.

Any other view on this?

6⃣The life at college is a time when you can decide your career. It’s a time of dreams and innumerable paths. You can still be as good as a programmer but you can work for a non-profit organization and even gain the satisfaction of being a humanitarian. The point is that you are free to try out these new things and no one is going to forcefully control the decisions you make. Every nook and corner of the college you’d find a peaceful spot full of natural surroundings, who’s value you will only realize once you graduate from your campus.

You will always remember the early morning fog, your hostel’s adorable “puppy”, even your grumpy watchman. So, remember that there will be moments that carry a lot of sentimental value and you can’t help but miss those years later.

What's your story?

7⃣College will teach you another fundamental thing – life is unpredictable. It might be good, it might be bad, it might be weird, and it might not interest you, but expect anything to happen. For example, you might have a wonderful job this moment, and be fired the very next moment. College life prepares you for all of this. It is a perfect blend of joy and hardships. You meet different people, you interact with them, you learn about their cultures and grow as a person.

You will understand how to talk to different people, how to judge their behaviour, thus helping you with important life skills..

True that?
